Our second concert for 2024 featured Royal Escapades by John W Stout, Royal Fireworks by Handel, Arlington Festive Music by John O’Reilly, Praises by W. Francis McBeth, A Symphonic Celebration by Anne McGinty and Luminosity by David Bobrowitz.
Baroque & Beyond - 3pm Sunday 17 March
Our first concert for 2024 featured Purcell, Grieg, Roman, and an Irish special for St Patrick's Day ("The Irish Song"). From members of LWO, saxophone quintet NT (Three No Trumpets) performed Bach, Elgar and Marcello.

Christmas Crackers Concert - 3pm Sunday 1 27 November
Our final concert for 2022 included a selection of musical works that celebrates Christmas and the East including Variations on a Korean Folk Song, Japanese Folk Song Suite, Fantastia on a 13th Century Carol, Suite from The Nutcracker and Let the Bells Ring!
Classically Unfinished Concert - 3pm Sunday 28 August
Our first concert of 2022 since COVID-19 featured classical works including Unfinished Symphony by Schubert, Hammersmith by Holst and Finale from Symphony in F Minor by Tchaikovsky.

Music from the Movies & LWO Jazz Band Concert - 3pm Sunday 9 December
Our final concert for 2018 comprised a selection of soundtracks from memorable movies. After the interval, the LWO Jazz Band performed foot-tapping hits that you can sing along to.
Spring Music from Asia-Pacific Concert - 3pm Sunday 23 September
Our spring concert featured music from around the Pacific, including Australia, Korea and Japan.
Christmas in July Concert - 3pm Sunday 1 July
Our winter concert had a festive Christmas in July theme where we presented some contemporary carol medleys, a traditional carol suite and a symphonic suite from the Nutcracker plus lots more!

Community Concert with LWO Jazz Band - 3pm, Sunday 10th December
Our December concert included works by James Barnes and Robert Sheldon, as well as a set by the LWO Jazz Band!
Symphonic Classics - 3pm, Sunday 17th September
Our spring concert featured classic works: The Sorcerer's Apprentice by Paul Dukas, Capriccio Espagnol by Rimsky-Korsakov, Armenian Folk Song and Dance by Aram Khachaturian, and 'Jupiter, Bringer of Jollity' from Holst's The Planets.
Winter Concert - 3pm, Sunday 25th June
This concert included the romantic-era Overture für Harmoniemusik by Felix Mendelssohn, The Floral Dance by Katie Moss (based on a Cornish folk tune) and Selections from Les Misérables. The program included two very contrasting marches: the showy Glenn Ridge by Lennie Niehaus and the classic The Boys of the Old Brigade by William Paris Chambers.
Classics over TIme - Sunday 26th March
Our first concert of the year featured wind ensemble music spanning the ages. Repertoire included works from Henry Purcell's 17th-century work King Arthur Suite through to late-20th century works inspired by bygone eras including A Little Concert Suite by Alfred Reed, Royal Escapades by John W. Stout and Preludio by Leland Forsblad.
2016
Music from the Movies - Sunday 4th December
This exciting and varied program of movie music included Lord Of The Rings: The Return Of The King (arr. Lopez), Pirates Of The Caribbean - Symphonic suite from The Curse Of The Black Pearl (arr. Wasson), Suite From Battlestar Galactica (arr. Phillips and Scott), Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull (arr. Ford) and Four Dances From "West Side Story" (arr. Polster). The concert's second half featured a swinging set from our in-house jazz band!
Winter Classics - Sunday 26th June
Our Winter Classics Concert featured moving works including Second Suite in F and Hammersmith by Gustav Holst, and Ralph Vaughan Williams's much-loved English Folk Song Suite.
Spring Concert - Sunday 18th September
Guest conductor Sarah Travis led LWO in the performance of energetic and dramatic works including excerpts from Stravinsky's Firebird Suite, Incantation and Dance by John Barnes Chance, and By Loch and Mountain By Robert. W. Smith. We were delighted to share this event with the International Grammar School, Sydney. Co-conducted by Sarah Butler and Nik Glass, the IGS ensemble performed music from television's Downton Abbey, Down Longford Way by Percy Grainger, and Snarendipity for solo snare drums and band. The two ensembles performed a combined finale: Confluence by Richard Saucedo.
LWO in Concert - Sunday 20th March
Our first concert for the year featured a diverse program from around the world, including Three Greek Dances by Nikos Skalkottas, Russian Easter Overture by Nikolai Rimsky-Korsakov, Entre Los Montes, a Spanish march by Georges Auvraus, Tres Danzas de Mexico by William E. Rhoads, and a pasodoble, Los Valientes, by Sammy Nestico. We rounded out the program with pieces from two favourite composers: Through the Vulcan’s Eye by Robert W. Smith and Centennial Celebration Overture by James Barnes.
2015
End of Year Concert - Sunday 22nd November
The orchestra's repertoire for its last concert of 2015 included Robert W. Smith's To Dance in the Secret Garden and Ralph Hutlgren's Australian Raphsody, as well as Edvard Grieg's Peer Gynt Suite No.1, featuring the ever-popular 'In the Hall of the Mountain King'. Our resident stage band filled the second half of the concert with some toe-tapping tunes!
Spring Concert - Sunday 13th September
This afternoon of classics featured Georges Bizet's L'Arlséienne, written as incidental music for Alphone Daudet's play of the same name; Edvard Grieg's Suite for Military Band, also condensed from a longer composition of incidental music from a play; Variations and Fugue (On a Theme of Brahms) by contemporary American composer Carson Rothrock; and Tchaikovsky's popular and rousing Marche Slave. Ecopella choir filled the second half of the concert with their save-the-world music.
5th Anniversary Concert - 3pm Sunday 21st June
This celebration of the orchestra's first five saw us celebrate with some of our favourite works for wind ensemble: Variations on a Korean Folk Song by John Barnes Chance, which the orchestra played during our very first year, and Eaglecrest by James Barnes, as well as Grand Tetons by Melvin Shelton, always popular with our audience.
LWO in Concert - Sunday 29th March
Repertoire included Samuel Barber's stately Commando March, Stuart Johnson's cheeky A Circus Suite, and Frank Erickson's dramatic Toccata for Band.
2014
Summer Concert - Sunday 14th December
LWO rounded out the year with a concert featuring featuring Holst's Second Suite in F and works by Ralph Vaughan Williams and W. Francis McBeth. The Big Band took to the stage for the second half of the concert to deliver a selection of toe-tapping tunes!
Spring Concert - Sunday 21st September
This concert was a celebration of wind ensemble flair and colour. The diverse program included movements from Three Japanese Dances by Bernard Rogers, with its haunted, rich harmonies and melodies, and Arlington Festive Music by John O'Reilly, which highlighted the technical skill of our players.
Autumn Concert - Sunday 4th May
Our Classics Concert showcased some stalwarts of the repertoire, including Percy Grainger's Childrens' March and an arrangement of Tchiakovsky's 1812 Overture!
2013
Folk & Jazz - Sunday 8th December
Repertoire included Robert Sheldon's challenging work, As a Wind from the North, William E. Rhoads' setting of tradional melodies in Tres Danzas de Mexico, and a range of music from many eras. The concert also featured a toe-tapping set from our stage band!
LWO in Concert - Sunday 22nd September
This concert welcomed guest conductor Sarah Travis to the podium. Sarah, a dedicated member of the band, led the group in a number of challenging modern works for wind ensemble. The varied program also featured stalwarts of the repertoire, such as Percy Grainger's Molly on the Shore.
Classics over Time - Sunday 16th July
Leichhardt Wind Orchestra's first program for 2013 presented some true classics of the orchestral repertoire, including Handel's Music for the Royal Fireworks, as well as some less conventional works!

Concertos & Saxophones - Sunday 23rd September
The orchestra was delighted to present Sydney artist Nathan Henshaw, playing concertos for saxophone by Demersseman and by Smith. Feature works in this modern program included the Australian premiere of Caleb Hugo's Transitions and, combining with special guest Andrew Smith, Andy Scott's double concerto Dark Rain.
Celebration - Sunday 15th July
LWO's 2nd Birthday Concert featured a number of our favourite works from past concerts and finished with some folk dances in the spirit of celebration.
Good American Influences - Sunday 20th May
In addition to a number of great works from the symphonic band repertoire, we welcomed Fig, a Sydney-based quartet with wide-ranging influences!
2011
Movie Spectacular - Saturday 10th December
This movie music program featured Hunsberger's spectacular version of Star Wars for wind orchestra. Other program highlights included music from Pirates of the Carribbean: Dead Man's Chest , The Lord of the Rings: The Fellowship of the Ring and Battlestar Galactica.
Jazz & Folk - Sunday 11th September
This concert featured a the LWO Big Band as well as the Wind Orchestra.
Bad to the Bone - Sunday 19th June
LWO proudly showcased another young and exciting local artist, Matthew Harrison, performing Rimsky-Korsakov's Concerto for Trombone and Band. Matthew brought a wealth of musical experience to our concert, having performed as guest artist with the Sydney Symphony and Australian Opera and Ballet Orchestra. LWO also performed works including Paul Hindemith's Symphony in Bb.
Sax_clectic - Saturday 2nd April
An array of eclectic music for wind orchestra including works by Vaughan Williams and Grainger, as well as the only original works for concert band by Respighi and Schoenberg -- Huntingtower and Theme and Variations Op.43a. On top of these masterpieces LWO was privileged to also feature one of Sydney's finest saxophone quartets, Nexas.
2010
Jazz & Folk - Sunday 5th December
The wind orchestra's selection of folk inspired concert music included Variations on a Korean Folk Song by John Barnes Chance, Chinese Suite for Band by Hua Yang, and Japanese Folk Song Suite by Bin Kaneda. The LWO Big Band with guest artists Ken Allars, Gregg Telian and Nathan Henshaw then finished off the year with a bang! With numbers by James Morrison, Billy Strayhorn, Sammy Nestico and Cole Porter this proved to be a thrilling finale to the year.
A Spring Concert - Sunday 19th September
A program of celebration music including works by McGinty, Khachaturian and Barnes to name a few. LWO was flattered to welcome Jy-Perry Banks, winner of the 2010 Sydney Conservatorium of Music's Concerto competition, to perform the Ralph Vaughan Williams' Tuba Concerto.
Music to Warm the Winter Blues - Saturday 19th June
In its first ever performance, Leichhardt Wind Orchestra! performed works from artists including Alfred Reed, Francis McBeth, Grainger and Holst. The concert featured solo artists Peter Smith on clarinet and Alexander Nelson on flute.
